What is a Living Funeral ?

A Living Funeral is also sometimes known as a pre-funeral. A chance for people to get together while the person is still alive. To celebrate their life and to hear from them also. This could be appropriate for people with a terminal illness. A sharing of their life with family and friends, making memories while still able to do so. It is known as ‘Seizenso’ in Japan. Elderly people feeling that their old age is burdening their family, holding a living ceremony, taking the pressure off their family from organising a traditional funeral on their death. This could perhaps work in conjunction with the rise in popularity of direct cremations. The holding of a living ceremony now followed by a direct cremation at a future date.
