Can anyone be a Celebrant at a funeral ?

Can anyone be a celebrant at a funeral ? Possibly. However, is it advisable?

A qualified Funeral Celebrant has trained for the position. The Celebrant has likely conducted many ceremonies before and is probably older with a life-time of experience. They are also likely to be a little removed from the emotions on the day, not part of the grieving family, nor connected as a friend. This slight distance allows the ceremony to be ‘Held’ so that family and friends are free to engage with the service.
